Evanescence
Evanescence's first record deal happened because a singer from another band needed a bathroom break. Walking past a mastering room, he heard their demo playing through the door and asked who they were. Three months later, the band had a deal with Wind-Up Records. "My Immortal" was recorded illegally at a studio in Little Rock, with the band sneaking in nightly from 11 PM to 4 AM for months until they were caught. The label rejected Amy Lee's orchestral recording and made her use a rough MIDI demo instead, one she said made her sound "like a little kid."
